A reflex system operates by generating a beam of infrared light between itself and a distant retroreflector. A break in the light beam results in an on-off control action provided through a plug-in output device. Range is dependent on the ratio of infrared light detected by the control to the minimum amount required to complete the beam. This ratio is equal to one at the control’s maximum range and increases with decreasing range. The best working range for dirty conditions is determined by the peak value of the ratio.
